The Varsity Baseball team swept their doubleheader with Dundee Friday winning the first game 2-1 and the nitecap 5-2. Brendan Lyons went the complete game victory in the first game scattering six hits while striking out four. It was Brendan’s third complete game of the season. In the second game, Blake Harris got the win going the first five innings before being relieved by Colin Moran in the sixth inning for his second win of the season.  Layne Gusler had two of the Warrior four hits in the first game, and Zach Tallman went a perfect 3-3 in the second game as the Warrior bats woke up and pounded out nine hits. Gusler also had two hits in the second game and an RBI sac fly in the first inning.

The Freshman baseball team went through a rough stretch to end the week suffering four straight losses in double headers to Wyandotte and Monroe Jefferson.  In the opener against the Bears Woodhaven started off with an early lead but could not hold it due to fielding errors.  Woodhaven would tie the game in the top of the 3rd but would give up a run in the bottom of the inning losing the game 6-5.  John Smith, Ian Sikina (2) , Zack Zolcsak, Tyler Harris all scored runs for the Warriors in the game.  Ian Sikina continued his hot hitting from earlier in the week with a double and single.  Connor Thimmes and John Smith also contributed with singles for the Warriors.  In the second game against Wyandotte the Warriors fell behind early and could not recover.  Wyandotte scored three runs in the 2nd and three in the 4th going on to win the game 6-0.  Noah George had a single and two stolen bases and John Smith also had a single to lead the Warriors offense.

The Freshman fell behind 6-0 after two against the Monroe Jefferson Bears after a series of errors allowed each inning to continue.  Woodhaven was able to counter with three runs of their own in the third but Jefferson rallied again in the 4th for two which would prove to be more than enough.  Monroe would tack on 3 runs in the fifth and 1 in the 7th to take the game 12-3.  The Warriors offensive highlights consisted of John Smith with two doubles, Ian Sikina with two singles and two runs scored, and Andrew Budai with two singles.  The second game started off promising for the Warriors as they took off to a 2-0 lead in the first and getting a 1-2-3 inning for Jefferson.  Woodhaven would struggle to score throughout the remainder of the game and could not keep Jefferson off the scoreboard.  Jefferson cut the Warrior lead to 2-1 after some defensive miscues helped extend the inning and also added runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings.  Woodhaven would add a single run to the board in the 6th and would fall by a score of 9-3.  John Smith continued to have a tremendous day at the plate hitting two more doubles giving him 4 in the double header.  Other offensive contributors were Andrew Budai, Dakota Byard, and Ian Sikina with runs scored.  Both Sikina and Byard had singles of their own in the Warriors loss.  The Freshman boys fall to 2-6 on the season and will play at Allen Park Monday.


The PHMS 8th grade baseball team split a doubleheader with Shumate dropping the first game 6-2 and winning the 2nd game in dramatic fashion 4-3.  In the first game, the Warriors were led by Jacob Thayer’s 3.1 innings on the mound where he allowed 1 earned run while striking out 4.  Jacob Lemelin had a triple and scored a run and Jacob Emery had a hit and a run.  In the night cap, Emery got the win going 2 innings in relief allowing 1 run.  The Warriors got the lead off guy on 2nd base in the last inning after a Shumate error.Thayer laid down a beautiful sacrafice bunt moving Kevin Mota to third where he aggressively scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch with a close play at the plate.  Ethan Bronni had 2 walks and a run.

The 8th grade baseball team dropped a couple of one run games on Friday to Renton 2-1 and 7-6.  The Warriors outhit Renton in both games, striking out only 5 times in 11 innings, but couldn’t get the timely hitting.  In the first game, Brad DeBoutte pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while strking out 7 while only walking one. Offensively, DeBoutte added 2 hits and scored the only Warrior run.  In the nightcap, the Warriors rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the penultimate inning to tie the game at 6.  The game went into extra innings where Renton added a run.  With the tying run on 2nd base with 2 outs, Josh Pryzbylo flied out to deep right to end the game.  Kyle Koch had 2 hits, including a 2 run homer and an RBI single.  The Warriors out hit Renton 10-5.  Brad DeBoutte and Ethan Bronni also added two hits.  Josh Martin had 2 RBI.  The team finishes out its season this week with double headers Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 7th grade baseball team improved their record to 5-0-1 by defeating Arthurs Middle School 8-7.  Justin Charron went 3 for 3 with a triple, double, and single.  He also scored 2 runs and added an RBI.  Drew Szczepaniak added 2 hits, while Jimmy Owczaczak, Brandon Wylie, Jacob Outland, and Seth Chapman all collected 1 hit each.  Brandon Wylie scored 2 runs while Nash Hatcher, Jimmy Owczaczak, Shawn Acheson, and Jacob Outland had one run a piece.  Seth Chapman had 2 RBI, Owczaczak, Wylie, Acheson, Outland, and Reagan all had 1 RBI.  Drew Szczepaniak started the game and pitched 3 innings, giving up 2 hits and one earned run while striking out 8.  Shawn Acheson relieved him and picked up the win, pitching 2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 2 hits, while striking out 2.  Brandon Wylie picked up the save pitching 2 innings while giving up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, recording one strike out.

The 7th grade Baseball team beat Renton (Huron) Middle school Friday 6-1 in the first game and 6-4 in the second game of a double header.  In the first game Justin Charron went 2 for 2 scoring one run with one RBI and Andrew Liangos also went 2 for 2 scoring one run with 2 RBI to lead the team on the base path.  Drew Szczepaniak, Jacob Outland, Shawn Acheson, and Reiss Varady all chipped in with one hit as well.  Paul Reagan pitched a complete game giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 batters.  In the second game Brandon Wylie and Charron both went 2 for 3 while scoring one run and collecting one RBI.  Liangos was 1 for 2 scoring one run with 2 RBI.  Jimmy Owczaczak, Seth Chapman, Paul Reagan, Matthew McGowen, Szczepaniak, and Acheson had hits as well.  Matthew McGowan started the game and pitched 4 innings for the win, allowing up 6 hits while giving up 4 runs with 3 strikeouts.  Justin Charron picked up the save pitching 1 inning striking out all 3 batters that he faced.  The team will travel to Southgate to face Gerish Middle School in a Double header on Tuesday.
